Description of Significance |
CONSTRUCTED OF TELEGRAPH POLES DONATED BY THE ROCK ISLAND RAILROAD, THIS LITTLE FACILITY OPENED AUGUST 1, 1918 TO SERVE THE NUMEROUS TROOP TRAINS THAT STOPPED IN EL RENO AS THE UNITED STATES MOBILIZED FOR WAR. IT WAS MANNED BY VOLUNTEERS FROM MANY ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE NEXT YEAR. ORIGINALLY LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF THE DEPOT, IT WAS MOVED TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION EAST OF THE DEPOT IN ORDER TO SAVE IT. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 9/5/75. |
